5 Ways to Make Your Blog Stand Out

Make Your Blog Stand Out

Because there are so many blogs online these days, it’s really a challenge to make your blog stand out and get it noticed apart from the other hundreds and thousands out there. When blogging first became popular, it wasn’t as difficult to make things noticeable because not everyone was doing it. But now that there are all sorts of blogs, blogging styles and even various blogging platforms (social media), it’s definitely something that requires work and focus if you want to make things different.

Bloggers choose different ways to make their blogs get noticed. Some bloggers stay with traditional methods and perhaps make their posts longer and SEO optimized so that they’re picked up quicker by Google crawlers. Other bloggers have decided to incorporate videos into their blog posts, which can be quite appealing to readers and even increase traffic. Whatever method you decide to use as a blogger, the main focus should be on creating a site where people will return to time after time. I have listed below a few ways you can make your blog stand out from the crowd, no matter what topic you’ve chosen or how your traffic is faring at the moment. Read on to find a few tips you can use right away:

1. Be Genuine

Readers want to know that they’re interacting with a real person who’s connected with his/her blog. It’s also less stressful for you as a blogger to just be yourself. Don’t worry so much about what the “popular” blogs are doing and try to mimic them. Being genuine goes a long way and being disingenuous will also get you noticed, but perhaps in a negative way (a.k.a.=unsubscribers)

2. Answer Comments

I remember one situation where I was completely impressed with a well-known blogger who took the time to answer a question that I posted on his blog. I assumed he had a staff of people to do that for him, but I guess I was wrong. I really didn’t expect that to happen. I subscribed to his newsletter that same day and I’ve been a loyal subscriber ever since.

3. Interact Socially

Don’t make it a goal to comment on every cute video, every link or to leave a witty comment on certain posts or pages. Focus on quality interactions by leaving thoughtful comments, asking relevant questions, actually reading the post and link and becoming an active part of the discussion. You’ll stand out and get noticed because of your posts and comments. Keep in mind that a lot of people who read blogs don’t normally interact, although they enjoy what they read. Be different.

4. Link, Link, Link

That means you need to link to other blogs, preferably within your category. By linking out to other bloggers, you’re establishing a connection and building the first part of a networking relationship. I’ve established a lot of relationships with other writers and bloggers over the years that I’ve never met (physically), but we’ve connected and stayed connected for years. We’ve been able to help each other professionally as well, so remember that links create networks which create relationships.

5. A Thousand Words

That’s what they say pictures are worth, so stand out from everyone by including those eye-catching pictures with your blog posts. You can use free or fee-based images in your posts. But for me, I’m a novice photographer so I much prefer to take my own photos (be sure to copyright your own photos if you do this) and use them on my blog space. I get to take the pictures I want and that are reflective of my personality and blogging style.

What other things can you think of that would make your blog stand out? What do you do differently on your site that makes you get noticed?
