Working wellness is very important, but it can be difficult for to stay healthy if you work in an office. Not only is the environment very stressful, but junk food is readily available, being around so many people can take a toll on your immune system, and we all know the frustration of not having time to work out before or after work as well. Fortunately, there are many ways you can keep yourself healthy at the office year-round. Below are some tips for staying healthy, and what you can do to stay in shape.

Walk During Your Breaks

The majority of office workers spend most of their day sitting down. Sitting for more than six hours a day can put you at risk for developing serious health problems, which is why you may want to consider taking a walk during your breaks at work. Taking a short walk not only helps you get some activity into your day, but it also helps refresh you, and makes it easier for you to get back and focus on work.

Pack Healthy Snacks

Resist the urge to indulge in unhealthy office foods by packing your own healthy snacks. Fruits and vegetables with dip, whole grain crackers, nuts, and kale chips are examples of some of the healthy snacks you can pack for work. Don’t give into the temptation of grazing on unhealthy options like candy and salty chips.

Stay Hydrated

Drinking eight to 10 glasses of water a day will keep you hydrated. One of the reasons many people feel fatigued in the afternoon is because they are dehydrated. In addition to drinking plenty of water, you also want to eat foods that have a high water content. Apples, watermelon, grapefruit, and oranges are some of the many foods rich in water and vitamins to help boost your immune system as well.

Try to Minimize Stress

Stress is something that is hard to avoid if you work in an office. However, it can impair your immune system, and make you more susceptible to illness if you don’t find a way to get it under control, especially if you are pregnant. Taking a short weekend vacation can help you reduce stress, and if you don’t have that kind of time, you may also want to spend some time out of each day meditating.

According to Dr. Gilbert Webb who practices as a high risk obstetrician at Mercy Hospital, if you are pregnant and feel like stress is beginning to take control of your life, you should consider talking to your doctor about it, as stress can be exacerbated by a medical condition and could potentially cause problems throughout the rest of your pregnancy.

While working in an office can make it harder to have the time you need to stay healthy, there are many ways you can keep yourself well. Stay healthy by taking walks during your lunch breaks, by packing healthy snacks, staying hydrated, and keeping your stress level under control. Once you know where your problem areas are, you can take the steps necessary to get feeling your best.
