Apple – the biggest player in the software and application development business -released the second major and much awaited iOS 8 update. Since its release back in September, iOS 8 is said to have received tons of complaints about the same from those who updated their Apple devices immediately. After a few weeks, the company claimed that the issue was being sorted with the iOS 8.1 update.
iOS 8.1 is a small update but has promised to deliver new features and fixes for bugs to its iPhone and iPad users. After using iOS 8.1 for a couple of weeks, one would like to take another look at how the update is performing across Apple’s most popular devices.
In late September, Apple released iOS 8.1 update into the beta program. Subsequently, for several weeks Apple, and its development partners, poked and prodded this update until Apple deemed it ready for the public to use. In October, the company announced an iOS 8.1 release date and on October 20th, the company rolled the update out for iOS 8 users.
The update not only includes support for Apple Pay but comes packed with an assortment of tweaks and changes that are meant to improve Apple’s iOS 8 update. Apple has made sure that the update tackled some of the more annoying iOS 8 problems that had emerged in the wake of the iOS 8.0 release in September. The iOS 8.1 update eradicated an issue wherein the iPhone would get stuck in landscape mode and it also squashed an iOS 8 bug that caused read iMessages to be labelled as unread.
And while iOS 8.1 did squash some bugs, it did not get rid of them all- so said most of the users who were amongst the first ones to try it-it came with a number of problems of its own. In fact there were many iPhone and iPad users who were complaining of assorted installation issues that have prevented them from getting the iOS 8.1 update installed on their device.
Over the past two weeks, many iPhone and iPad users dealing with all kinds of iOS 8.1 problems have given their feedback on the latest up-gradation. It has also been taken from iPhone and iPad users who, after hearing about these issues, are still on the deciding stage for downloading and installing the iOS 8.1 update. They are not to be blamed for being on the fence, especially after the problems Apple’s iOS 8.0 and iOS 8.0.1 updates delivered.
It has been observed that iOS problems tend to show up, or dissipate, in the weeks after the initial release and soon after hitting the two week mark, Apple knew that they have a pretty good gauge on iOS 8.1′s performance across most of Apple’s iOS 8 devices including top devices like the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5, and last year’s iPad Air.
Today, as it runs down the experiences on top iPhones and iPads, Apple gives its word to offer a definitive answer to one of the most popular iOS questions: Is iOS 8.1 worth installing? Apple, very explicitly, advices it users to go ahead and install iOS 8.1 for all the positives that it has to offer. They claim to overpower the few existing negatives by a fair margin.
